Galway is a harbour city on the Atlantic coast of the West of Ireland. It is Ireland’s 5th largest city with a population of nearly 80,000. Well-connected by road and rail networks to the larger cities of Dublin and Limerick, living in Galway offers the opportunity to experience real Irish life while still being reassuringly accessible. Serviced by two international airports within an hours drive, Shannon Airport and Ireland West Airport in Mayo, it’s a short flight from London and all the major European cities.

Sports and Recreation

The landscape of Galway is unparalleled in its rugged and unspoilt nature. From beautiful beaches and scenic mountains, there is plenty to explore while living in Galway. Adrenaline junkies should head to the beach to surf in the Atlantic sea, the waves here are known as some of the best in Europe. Cyclists will be challenged by the 42 kilometre Greenway Cycle track along the picturesque coast or why not strap on your hiking boots and try climbing the Twelve Bens in Connemara. Living in Galway is perfect for sports lovers with clubs in rugby, soccer, sailing and many more. Experience traditional Gaelic sports such as Gaelic football and hurling at the Pearse stadium and you can’t miss the famous Galway horse races at Ballybrit.
