What is it like living in Stuttgart as an expat?
Stuttgart is known as ‘the cradle of the automobile’. It is thought that the car was first invented here, by Karl Benz. The automotive industry is still the dominant industry in the region. Mercedes, Daimler and Porsche have facilities here. Stuttgart has excellent transport links. It is known as a transport junction, due to a convergence of the autobahn network and S-Bahn railways. It also has its own international airport, just 13kms outside of the city. The area is known for its high density of academic, science and research centres, generating an intelligent local population. The local economy is strong and international companies such as Trumpf and Robert Bosch attract highly skilled workers from all over the world. The city boasts no less than 10 Michelin star restaurants and holds multiple festivals throughout the year.
